Application: Use a flat top powder brush or kabuki brush for mineral powder foundation application. Take a little of the foundation on the lid of the container, grab some foundation, place the foundation in the areas you need the most coverage. Then go back with the brush and buff the foundation in. Repeat the process till you are happy with the coverage on your face. This will give you a light coverage.

Mineral pigments are a vast group of inorganic pigments. They can be naturally derived (mined from different ores), but are often contaminated with dangerous heavy metals such as mercury, arsenic and lead.
 

Due to controversial mica mining that often uses child labor, some suppliers offer synthetic mica. It has the same properties as natural mica, without the negative ethical impact.

Pigments used for cosmetic applications are made synthetically and are nature identical. This means that instead of being derived from nature they are replicated in a lab setting. Despite not being naturally derived, they are permitted in natural/organic certifications.

Based on the information I shared, I do not use mined mica. My process follows the standard of ethically formulated mica.

If mineral pigments exist in nature, why make them synthetically? Natural sources, like rocks, can contain many different components, not all of which are good for us. Over the years of analyzing mineral pigments, scientists have found that they contain dangerous amounts of heavy metals and other toxic components. Pigments made in the lab have completely the same structure as the natural ones, but lack any of those dangerous components.

Even though mineral pigments are made synthetically, they are approved by most major natural and organic certifications, like Ecocert and COSMOS. All of the certified natural makeup brands use mineral pigments in their products.
